I have a chunk of uncut amethyst, about the size of two oreo cookies stacked on top of each other. How would I go about separating it into chunks? I was thinking I’d break off two smaller chunks, work them into earrings, and leave the rest for a matching pendant. Are there special tools? Do I just use a hammer? If so, how exactly?

don’t use a hammer! you need special tools, diamond saw, special grinders. talk to a gemologist and see if what you have is stable or if it has fractures in it. it may just crumble in your hands. research it before you do anything!!!
