Citrine, a Beautiful Golden Stone

Citrine is a beautiful gemstone found mainly in the South American country of Brazil. The gem can also be found in a select number of US States such as California, North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado, and Georgia, as well as other areas of South America and even parts of Europe. Citrine is typically a pale, translucent yellow gemstone, yet can be found in a variety of orange, gold, and yellow colors due to varying amounts of iron. The darker the color of the gem, the more valuable. The gem is transparent in appearance, a coarse-grained variety of quartz. Citrine is much more rare than similar stones such as the amethyst, which is often times heated to achieve the beautiful golden hue of the citrine.

Citrine is very sensitive, and can be easily scarred. The stone should be kept away from extreme heat or light, as high temperatures can permanently change the color. Not only used for making beautiful, colorful jewelry, citrine can also be used as a healing stone and can help fight diabetes. It has also been known to stimulate memory, and helps to rid the body of self-destructive tendencies, rendering it a useful tool in the treatment of depression. Even if one is not suffering from the above ailments, it may be useful to keep the gem nearby, as it is also known as a symbol of wisdom and peace. Citrine can be used as a tool to motivate writers, as it is said to enhance creativity, and stimulate the mental body. Regardless of what one chooses to do with the citrine, the gem is always a less expensive and increasingly popular alternative to a yellow sapphire or diamond.
