The Healing Properties of Citrine

Citrine, November’s birthstone, is frequently referred to as “the gemstone of achievement,” and unfortunately suffers from a case of mistaken identity that keeps gemstone fans from appreciating its splendor. Natural Citrine’s color can range from a pale lemon yellow to a rich golden brown. After Citrine is faceted into a gemstone, it is practically impossible to distinguish it visually from the more valuable Yellow Topaz.Given this fact, some dishonest gem dealers and jewelry manufacturers switch the cheaper Citrine for Yellow Topaz. Unfortunately, this is usually discovered only when the gemstone is resold.

Most commercial-grade Citrine is actually Amethyst or Smoky Quartz that has been heated to active the ferric impurities that give its yellow color. Citrines produced in this way tend to have more of a reddish or orange cast than natural Citrines, which are usually pale yellow. The largest producer of gem-grade Citrine is Brazil. For those born in November, Citrine is your birthstone.

Over the centuries, Citrine acquired a reputation as a “success stone” that promotes prosperity and abundance. It’s also referred to as the “merchant’s gemstone” because shopkeepers and merchants long ago use to place Citrine in their cash drawers to bring in money. Citrine also is thought to bring success in other unpredicted ways. Citrine is also thought to encourage kindness by guiding those who profit from its powers to spread their wealth with others.

Citrine also is thought to enhance mental clarity, confidence. and will power. New Age healers commonly advise Citrine crystals for people that experience depression or low self-esteem. Another widely held belief about Citrine is that it wards off negative energies and enhances stability in thought and emotion. It’s also believed to reduce self-doubt and self-destructive tendencies, instead fostering happiness and good cheer in those who wear it.

I want to put crystals in the bottom of my fish tank. Which ones are safe to put in and which ones aren’t?

I have quartz, rainbow obsidian, goldstone, citrine, amythyst and a whole bunch of other ones too

Although most of these minerals are ok to put into the tank, remember igneous rock can leach too many minerals into the water. Like with the goldstone which contains copper and/or copper salts.

As for the citrine it is rarely found naturally. Most commercial citrine is in fact artificially heated amethyst or smoky quartz or manufactured with heavy plastics in a lab.

If they are polished and you are sure these items won’t leach, you can add them. I would watch the goldstone if you are getting items like crabs or shrimp.
