Diamond Eternity
‘Tis the season of romance! If you are looking for a romantic gift for the woman in your life, whether for her birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or for another kind of special occasion, an eternity band makes a meaningful gift she will treasure for a long time to come. Eternity rings are imbued with a special meaning in our culture, and because of that, are one of the most popular styles of rings. They are frequently used as anniversary presents or a gift given upon the birth of the couple’s first child, and may be worn with the wedding ring or even eventually replace it.
You may already know that the ring itself has a special meaning, which is why it is used as a symbol of a couple’s wedding vows. Because a ring makes a perfect, unbroken circle, it has long believed to be a symbol of eternity; it has no beginning and no end. Wedding rings were also made out of precious metals, because of the importance of the vows. For these reasons, a ring was believed to represent everlasting love, and has been used for many centuries to seal a couple’s marriage vows.
In olden times, women were often given two wedding rings: one being a plain band, for everyday wear, and one being fancier and more expensive, to be worn on special occasions. An eternity band can be compared to this second ring. While wedding bands are typically plainer, eternity rings are usually set with diamonds, and sometimes other precious stones. However, since an eternity ring is usually an anniversary gift or another type of present later in the marriage, it may not replace the wedding band for some years.
Like a plainer wedding band, an eternity ring symbolizes everlasting love. Traditionally, an eternity ring had small diamonds set in the ring, going all the way around. Like the unbroken circle, the diamonds going all the way around have no beginning and no end, which makes them a symbol of eternity; just a prettier and more precious version of eternity!
Unfortunately, full eternity rings, with the stones going all the way around, present a couple of issues. For one, the ring cannot be resized, and so has to be ordered in the correct size or custom made, for a woman whose ring finger is between sizes. And of course, sometimes the price is an issue, since it is more expensive to have diamonds that go all the way around the ring.
As a result, eternity rings often come with the stones only going halfway around the band. This allows a jeweler to resize the ring as needed, and means that if your wife’s fingers swell with age, she won’t have to give up wearing her ring. Of course, by getting a half eternity band, you will also be giving up the real basis for the meaning of the ring, the stones going all the way around with no beginning and no end.
An eternity band is a special present for the woman in your life, no matter which style of ring you choose. It’s a fitting gift to mark your anniversary, the birth of your first child, or any other special occasion that you want to make even more special and memorable!

Can a Gold Diamond Ring be plated with White Gold?
I have my mother’s eternity ring given to her by my late father. As I am expecting our first child, I would like to wear this ring but have it plated in white gold as my engagement and wedding rings are white gold also.
