If I were you I would get your favourite pokemon at a low level an trade it onto platinum. Then you can play platinum with a pokemon you actually like. I did this with a level 5 munchlax and am loving playing on platinum.

Once you have defeated the elite four you should trade all your good diamond pokemon onto platinum and sell diamond.
