Glass Beads—The Protagonist of Fashion
Glass beads, the protagonist of fashion, have been around literally for thousands of years. In ancient times, glass beads were made by hand which requiring skilled craftsmen, while today, most of glass beads are made by machine. No matter how they are made, glass beads have been created for many hundreds of years and continue to be popular today.
Glass beads are beautiful, colorful and versatile choices for all kinds of jewelry projects. You can make any type of jewelry with glass beads, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings and etc, even from a simple strand necklace to an intricately beaded work of art. They are versatile and quite popular among women of all ages. Many women use those beads to make their own jewelry while others prefer to buy their glass jewelry already made.
Glass beads come in various sizes, shapes, colors and designs, and can be classified as Lampwork Beads, Dichroic Glass beads, Millefiori Glass Beads, Czech Glass Beads, and so on.
Lampwork is a method of crafting glass beads and other items using a small hand torch and canes of glass. Real lampwork beads are always handmade, although there are many factory produced lampwork imitations.
“Dichroic” means “two colors,” but the bead itself is like a rainbow of color. This type of bead is not created with dyes or coloring agents, but are made with thin glass using the manipulation of light. The glass is created via fusion with materials such as aluminum and titanium.
“Millefiori” means “thousand flowers”. They are glass beads made from rods of different colored glass that have been layered together to create a flower-like pattern.
Czech beads are high in demand in many parts of the world because of their compatibility with other types of beads and the way they reflect color.
Different style beads can create different beauty and personalities. Jewelries made by glass beads can be worn with any type of clothing imaginable. It looks great with casual clothing such as jeans and tee shirts. For younger women, they enjoy wearing choker type necklaces with bright colors and interesting designs, but older women prefer to wear various style earrings and even bracelets. Glass beads jewelry can also let you look elegantly with that little evening dress for an evening party or other special occasion. No matter which age group you belong to and which style you like, there is a suitable one for you.
A quick look around the market would show you a large variety of glass beads available —pretty much any design you can think of would be available somewhere out there. Except using glass beads for wearing jewelries, they also can be used on key chains, bags, headwear, shoes, hats and any other imaginable thing. You also can use glass beads to decorate your house. Is my bracelet silver? (Made in Mexico)?
I got it at a charity sale. There were new and vintage pieces there.
The bracelet says
“Silver
L
Mexico”
(just like written above)
It is a nice bracelet, kind of heavy. It has dichroic (glass) for the stones.) and it definetly has a quality to it. I like it regardless, but do you think it is made of silver? Since it doesn’t say .925? Would they just write “Silver” and not “sterling”?
Thanks, I found out the bracelet was silver.
it’s a very standard practice to stamp sterling with .925. If it doesn’t say that, I would question it.
