Sir Walter Raleigh, born in Devon of sturdy local family, was meant to be a sailor, and a sailor he would be. As with so many English boys it was down to the sea for me. Raleigh proved himself in many actions, and by the ascent of the new Queen, Elizabeth, he dashingly wove his way into her favors. Soon, he was showing his brilliance on the bountiful sea, taking many risks and returning with much booty from the Spanish Main, the gold and silver route from America to Spain that made them follow the trades winds going and returning. The going was not worth many raids as those were essential supplies that could not be made in the new lands.
But on the return journey, the ships were laden with gold and silver and riches for the King and Queen. And it was his return journey successes that was making Walter, now Sir Walter, and his Queen, very rich. Sir Walter took time to survey the coast north from Florida and see how the terrain and climate changed: from swampy Florida up through the mild middle and then up towards Canada and it became too cold for mild crops. Half way along the coast, Sir Walter planted a flag and named this new land for his virgin new Queen Elizabeth: Virginia. Here he found the natives growing corn and many potatoes and other crops not seen in England. Even a silky grass they called cotton that bloomed and could be worked.
This so enchanted Sir Walter that he saw an entire new England being able to recreate itself: a better land, more free, where each could operate his own business. Here he stood on swampy marshlands, swatting away mosquitoes that would infest and kill many weakened English released from crowding in east London Jails, many who died on the crossing.
But, as Pocahantas would warn her father when John Smith had brought her over to London in 1609, there were so many white men, and so few of us. But her father, by then sickened by the diseases of the white men, did not rise up and throw them back into the sea. And now, it is far, far too late. But all in all, to our first English speaking American, Sir Walter Raleigh, you certainly lose your head over some fine real estate you helped create into one mighty nation, under God. Thank you, Walter. The wife of the President of what became the United States of America is known as First Lady. You, really, were our First English Speaking Man. Great vision.
Sir Walter Raleigh found the gentle hills of Virginia softer than his native Devon, and could see villages of English speaking townsfolk scattered about, a spired church on the hill; a new world of hope and harmony under God, the natives planting their corn nearby, all cheerfully exchanging their goods and trinkets.

My ancestral home is next door in Dorset, also by the sea. We lived in trees and caves when the Romans arrived, but we fought them. It took a while, but they left. They made us build lovely Roman baths and roads, though. Have you seen Bath?

Can i switch to 14 kt gold earrings after two weeks of piercing my ears?
I also have baseball practice and im not allowed to wear earrings, can i take them out for a couple of hours?
It is not a good idea. Even if your ears look absolutely fine they’re still not healed. You should keep them in for at least 4 weeks, better if you can make it 6-8. The thing with piercings is that they seem okay and then they can get infected. Another thing is that 14K gold contains nickel in the alloy and you shouldn’t let that metal anywhere near your ears until the piercings have really healed (that’s 6-12 months later). Nickel can damage piercings that are years old, what do you think it’ll do to your brand new piercings?
You also shouldn’t take them out. Taking them out and putting back it – prolongs healing time and seriously raises your risk of infections and other complications.
I’m sure you can wait with changing your earrings. What’s more important – your health or fashion? As far as baseball practice goes I’m sure you can talk to your coach. They make you wear starter studs because they’re small and far less likely to cause any harm during physical activities.
