A Buyer’s Guide To Eternity Rings

When a man wishes to show his wife that he still loves her and always will, he will sometimes buy her an eternity ring. An eternity ring is a symbol of everlasting devotion that serves as a complement to the engagement ring and wedding ring. The unity is one that won’t die, and this ring shows that to be true. There are some things to consider when buying an eternity ring.

The style of the ring is one of the major considerations one must make. A full eternity band is one that displays diamonds around the entire border of the ring. The band must therefore be rather thick, and that makes sizing tedious. This requires that almost all full bands be custom fit, and your wife will not have sample to try on before purchase. Half bands are not a bad idea, because they mean the same thing but are more easily fit and less expensive. This simply won’t do in the opinion of some, however, because they believe that a band must be a full circle to properly symbolize eternity.

Another consideration when buying an eternity ring is the proper time to do so. Occasionally, they are purchased before marriage, but that is usually not the case. There is actually no specific time at which to buy an eternity ring, but after one year of marriage has become increasingly popular. Some scoff at that and think that after 10 or even 25 years of wedded bliss is more appropriate. Eternity is a long time, and some people feel that one year does not adequately represent that. Still others purchase an eternity ring upon the birth of their first child.

The settings which the band employs are also things to consider when looking at rings. The shared prong band is a favorite of some. The diamonds are individually set, and are held in place with two, three, or four prongs. The channel set is another favored style of band. Here, the diamonds sit snugly together but do not sit atop one another. A continuous strip of metal on each side of the band holds the stones in place. One style that is a little more sophisticated is the Pave. Metal in beads secures the diamonds, and that requires handcrafting. It goes without saying that this style has a significant price tag, but the ring is quite beautiful.

Eternity rings are a great method by which to symbolize a dedication and adoration for someone that has no end. There really is not a time set in concrete as to when to buy one. This is truly a case of it being the thought that counts.

Where can I buy unset eternity style wedding bands?

I’m trying to find a place to buy an unset “prong style” eternity band, so I can create a ring (using my own sapphires) for my fiancee. Every site only has “set” bands. Can someone please lead me in the right direction, on how to find unset jewelry and where to have it set?

Im not sure on that…but before you make this choice…I wouldnt suggest an eternity band..the idea and name are cute and great and all but they cant ever be sized…and when..not if..when her finger size changes..youll have no choice but to get a new ring…and if its her wedding band..? how well do you think that will feel..to give up such a sentimental thing. try to find one that just has the stones on half the ring..she also wont have to worry about hitting the stones that are on the bottom..
