What does a clouded moon symbolize in the Chinese culture?

I recently acquired a necklace with an image of what looks like a crane flying over a clouded moon. I was just wondering if anyone knew if this held any meaning. The pendant is an oval piece of onyx and the image is gold. I assumed it was Chinese from the style.

As far as I am concerned, it is a story about Chang’e. And in China, we often think that if you were far away from your hometown, you might probably miss your family when you see the moon. It’s the symbol which stands for sorrow. Here is the story:
Chang’e and her husband Hou Yi, an outstanding archer, are the subjects of one of the most popular of Chinese mythological legends.
According to one version, Chang’e was the beautiful wife of Hou Yi, a hero who shot down nine suns scorching the earth. At that time, there were 10 suns that took turns to circle the earth once every 10 days. However, one day all 10 suns emerged together, causing immense damage on earth.
The shooting down of nine suns by Hou was highly praised by people on earth. Hou then had more disciples eager to learn archery including the evil Peng Meng.
One day, Hou received an immortality elixir and asked his wife to keep it. Chang’e hid the elixir in a box, but Peng saw her and tried to force her hand over the elixir when Hou was out hunting.
Rather than give the elixir to Peng, Chang’e chose to swallow it and found herself starting to float toward the sky. She kept on floating until she landed on the moon where she became a goddess, accompanied by a jade rabbit.
The loss of his wife made Hou immensely sad, but he noticed that the moon was especially bright and clear and he began to worship his beloved wife on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month each year when the moon is at its fullest and brightest.
The legend has been depicted and adapted in many old Chinese stories, demonstrating a long-standing fascination with the moon in Chinese imagination.
