The wooden heeled clog style is also in vogue. When is is combined with an underlay that reveals a shearling or faux fur cuff, the vibe is casual yet chic. For the ultimate rocker look, go for a red spike heeled boot that is covered with studs or rhinestones and features sexy cutouts.
Riding boots originated from the equestrian community, but they have successfully transitioned into the mainstream. These boots typically end at mid-calf and have a flat heel. This is more of a classy, refined look. To create a more high-fashion look, add a few large buckles. Leather or suede riding boots look great in neutral shades like dark brown, black, dark gray, honey or wheat.
Cadet boots are military inspired. They have features like silver, gold or brass hardware, lace-up ties, grommets, buckles and stacked, flat heels. Unlike actual boots worn by the military, the sole is not quite as thick. Since the look is rugged and casual, they are typically worn for more laid-back endeavors. Dark brown and black cadet boots, in leather and suede, are classics.
Over-the-knee boots are another must-have style. They are incredibly sexy, but can be toned down when worn with dark leggings or tights and a skirt. They can also be worn with skinny jeans. Many over-the-knee boots can also be turned down to create a cuff, making them even more versatile. To mitigate the provocative factor, choose flats or low, square heels over high, spike heels.
Regardless of the type of boot, there are a few guiding principles to keep in mind. Bright colors like red, purple, blue and green look great when they are in fashion, but can look dated very quickly. The same holds true for boots that have an abundance of extra ornamentation like multiple zippers or a combination of many different elements like rhinestones, buckles, laces and cutouts. The most chic women will have a varied selection of boots to choose from in their closet.
