Odd star in sky to the west multi color at times changes shape what is it ?

I have seen this star or planet for months now At first it was shaped like star a homemade Christmas tree topper with red & green lights .now it shines a yellowish tint and is farther away then before in the western sky.Not as one bright star but as many smaller stars together. Any ideas?
