Beautiful Akoya Pearl Earrings

Fine akoya pearls will make any woman happy. These precious stones are set in all variety of designs. Akoya pearls are of a higher quality than fresh water pearls; therefore, these earrings are for the lady of distinction. Highly lustrous and perfectly round pearls are characteristic of the akoya pearls.

Akoya pearl earrings are usually what women prefer when they are looking for simple and classic studs. These pearls are very round and hard which makes them perfect for drilling and stringing. The akoya pearls can be quite small, sometimes beautiful lustrous pearls as small as 2 mm come from these P. Fucata oysters. These small elegant cultured sea pearls are used for special jewelry. Akoya oysters are the smallest of the oysters used in cultured pearls. Most people think of the akoya pearl as traditional and white, but they come in a variety of colors also. We make dangle earrings out of baroque (odd shaped) akoya pearls; these unusually shaped sea pearls are crafted into gorgeous earrings with a variety of different settings made from different types of gold. There is an earring design that stands out from the crowd and it is a cluster of small 5.8 mm akoya pearl that dangles from a 14 K gold hook. Another favorite is the scallop shell earrings. This pair of tropical sea nuggets rest in a slightly larger golden scallop shell fit for a Polynesian princess.

Now for the exotic akoya cultured pearls. Occasionally a black akoya cultured pearl may appear within the oyster and these uncommon pearls are set aside to make special jewelry. We have black akoya stud earrings 10 mm in size. These black pearls have overwhelming overtones of blue and cherry. These special jewels rival the black Tahitian pearl. Brilliant golden akoya earrings 7.5 mm are also available and these golden pearls are similar to our south sea pearls. All of our stud earrings are set in 14 k gold.

What are the symbols in “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer that I should focus on?

I know that I should concentrate on the Pearl and the turban… but what else? Can anyone help? Thanks!

Her face- eyes: she’s looking directly out of the canvas, at the painter or the viewer- and her mouth is open. Both of these were seen as incredibly bold (even wanton), and were pretty unusual at the time.

You might also want to look at the light in the painting- the way it reflects off the earring onto the girl’s skin.

When you’re looking at the turban, think about how it contrasts with her other clothes perhaps.

You could also comment on the background and compare it to Vermeer’s other works. He generally painted rich, detailed backgrounds- the absence of this is incredibly compelling.
