what are the pros and cons of buying a vintage engagement ring?

i love vintage rings, and have been looking on ebay at vintage engagement rings, and have fallen in love with the ones circa 1930′s.
My boyfriend is all for buying off ebay, but i’m not sure what the disadvantages are for buying a vintage diamond ring, anyone know?
will i be getting my bang for my buck?
