Silver Blue
My concept for this baby shower is a press conference for a CD launching of a baby rock star. The theme is focused both on the soon-to-be mom and to-be-born son for this mixed-sex shower. I am thinking of electric blue, silver and purple as color motif. You can hold the shower in a club house, community hall, at a function room in a hotel or at the home of the soon-to-be-mom or the host (if somebody else is throwing the shower).
Use CD acrylic plastic cases as the envelope for your invitation then print the pregnant mom’s picture on a white inkjet printer paper to serve as your custom labels. Print all the details for the shower party in blue on the inside of the label. Remember it is best to include direction for the venue to avoid confusion. Indicate in your invitation that the guests have to bring the invitation with the case to the party in order to get a surprise gift. The guests should be dressed like reporters or “paparazzi” with cameras hanging on their shoulders. Install spotlight at the entrance and put red carpet where the guests will walk.
Assign a table near the wall to serve as presidential table where the soon-to-be-mom and family will be seated. Set up microphones on the table, use electric blue and silver table cloth for cover and décor with blue, violet and white flowers as centerpiece. Hang a tarpaulin back drop at the back of the presidential table with the picture of the pregnant mom similar to the invitation and printed with “A Rock Star is Born” on it. Hang old CDs decorated with blue and silver ribbons on the ceiling together with white and blue Christmas lights.
Serve finger foods like canapés, dips and salsas, cold cuts and cheese platter, slices of pizzas, mini rolled sandwiches and plenty of punch (preferably colored blue or purple). To make the shower more fun, you can set up a cup cake bar for dessert where guests can put their own frostings and toppings on their cupcakes. Keep in mind the theme in choosing the flavors and colors.
As an activity, conduct an interview portion where guests get to interview the mom-to-be as if she is a celebrity. Have a “name that tune contest” (this is the fun part) and give inexpensive cute prizes. Assign a DJ to take care of the background music and if in case there will dancing. Burn popular rock songs by known artists and give the CDs as shower favors using the CD case invitation the guests are bringing as container.
To culminate the shower, stack up a number CDs of rock songs that are considered classics minus the case and let the guests guess the number of pieces stacked. The first person who guessed correctly gets the CDs with the cases as prize.
