Can scratches in Tanzanite Gemstones be repaired?

My wife has a ring that she loves with a tanzanite stone, she recently scratched the surface of the ring, can this be repaired? and how do I find a reliable place to do this?

Yes they can, but that would depend upon if the size of the stone makes the repair lucrative. . . the procedure can be expensive.

Tanzanite, having a hardness (MOH) of approx. 6.5 is not considered to be a “hard” stone, like Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond, to list a couple. You will find that it scratched easily in the future too. It is also “brittle”.

My recommendation is that you chick with a reputable “Gemology Laboratory” and absolutely ask the approx. value of your stone, AND the price of re-polishing (re-cutting) it.

Some so-called “Amateur Gemologist Clubs” have rather advanced “cutting and polishing” equipment at their disposal. The clubs “leader(s)” are usually advanced individuals, who even are responsible for advanced courses.

You may want to check to see if there is a local club that is willing to help you. Hopefully, these types of people(s) are dependable and professional.
