Tibetan Silver
Just this week, I went to see the new Chris Nolan movie ‘Inception’. Interestingly I had been writing a lot about astral projection and lucid dreaming over the past few weeks, yet had no idea that this was the focus of the story. Tibetan Buddhists would probably tell me that the seed had been planted, that our waking dreams are always being shared through a ‘celestial telepathy’. Carl Young would most likely refer to it as ‘connecting theory’. Apparently ‘Inception’ has awakened a great deal of general interest and curiosity about lucid dreaming and telepathy.
Just earlier this month, I referenced an article by Carmen Medici in which she mentions the Celtic ‘Month of Coll’, which stretches from approximately August 5th to September 1st. This period in time was once renowned for enhancing shape shifting and astral projection rituals. It is the phenomenon that the mystic poet W.B. Yeats delved into in his poem, ‘The Song of Wandering Aengus’. It is my understanding that Ramadan also occurs during this month, beginning when the silver moon is visible to the naked eye. The moon appears to guide many religious and spiritual practices. Its influence is particularly celebrated in neo paganism, with much value placed on the interpretation of dreams.
The concept of mutual dreaming is explored by the ingenious Chris Nolan in his latest movie. It highlights the real possibilities of evolving creative awareness in the dream world. I love how the ‘architecture of the mind’ concept is repeated throughout the movie and how this is applied to the levels of dreaming – the multi layered boundlessness, the multiple levels of consciousness that are there to be explored, channelled and shared. I also love Nolan’s use of the labyrinth.
The dreamscapes portrayed towards the end of the movie are particularly amazing. I think a lot of dreamers will identify with these images. They reminded me of why I appreciate New York so much. It is the feeling of walking through this labyrinth of architecture and art in which we know we cannot get physically lost forever, yet within the space, within this tremendous cityscape, we can lose track of where we are and delve deeper in to the imagination. It is the moving beyond the mundane to a more creative state of being to experience what it is to dream because it is within our dreams that we are provided with the opportunity to meet with ourselves, to confront and acknowledge our Self / Shadow.
Why is there a dragon on the inside of my om mani padme hum silver bracelet; what does it mean?
My bracelet is handmade 925 silver and I purchased it to support Tibetan refugees in exile in some small way. It is NOT commercial. I listened to a live talk, via a translator by a Buddhist Monk who was imprisoned and tortured by the Chinese invaders.
The monks who were accompanying the Dali Lama’s personal physician assured me( I asked) the bracelet was the work of a Tibetan refugee risiding in Tibet-in-exile at Dharmsala, India. He was imprisoned BY the Chinese for 25 years and tortured. When asked, via a translator what was the worse of his imprisonment and torture the man answered that he nearly became angry at THE CHINESE PERPATRATORS!!! AWE is what I felt and still DO feel!!
