Silver Turquoise brecelet from Silvertribe Jewlery?

I’m interested in buying this bracelet but I’m not quite sure if they reputable enough…plus they only have a 3 day return policy (on a $350 item!!!). Pls tell me what do you think that I should do, or if you know any good silver jewler on the internet.

The bracelet weights about 150 grams (aprox. 5 oz), has a big turquoise on it and at the widest point is a little less than an inch. It’s stamped 925 and it has the artist signature on it. How much do you think it worths?

Having spent a fair amount of time on the Navajo reservation and seen high-quality Navajo silver and turquoise; I can tell you that is not high-quality Navajo silver and turquoise jewelry. The first clue is how thin the turquoise is; high-quality turquoise looks like a rock or pebble.

Here are some examples from jewelry I own and some explanations about the quality of each.

This particular bracelet has the thin turquoise “stone” which has a black backing. If you were to take out the turquoise, you would probably find sawdust behind it which is used to make it look thicker than it actually is. The bracelet that you posted has similar turqoise.

If you look at the two above images, you’ll notice how clear and shiny the metal is. That’s a sign of low amounts of silver. High amounts of silver will develop a dark tarnish over time as the silver oxidizes as you can see in this next image.

If you notice, the turquoise also looks like a pebble. It also looks like a pebble in this next image. That’s another sign of quality turqoise, although both of them still have a light blue hue which indicates that they are still rather new; 20-30 years.

Really old turqoise will actually develop a greenish hue as the copper, which is contained in turquoise, reacts with air.

As you can see from this image, there are pieces of turquoise that have been exposed to air for different lengths of time.

These types of Navajo silver and turquoise jewelry are hard to find because they usually stay in the family. They will also be significantly more expensive than the one shown in your ebay example.

There really isn’t anything wrong with the bracelet in your ebay link, but I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing it because that type of thin turquoise has a tendency to fall out of its setting. I would also say the starting price is probably a little high for the value of the silver used and the silversmithing. The marking “925″ indicates the purity of the silver used. 92.5% purity is the quality of sterling silver. Silver costs about $17 per troy ounce, and that’s 99.9%, not 92.5%; so the cost of the silver used in the bracelet is only about $60-$80.

I wouldn’t bid more than $25 dollars over the starting bid price.
